Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Trần Thành Công has affirmed that eight out of 12 Vietnamese people who were injured in the recent bomb attack in Cairo have completely recovered and could return home.

Công unveiled the information in an interview granted to Egypt-based correspondents of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

The attack occurred at 18:15 on December 28 (local time) aiming at a bus carrying 15 Vietnamese tourists after their trip to a pyramid and being en route to the airport to return home.

Three Vietnamese tourists were killed while 12 others were injured, the ambassador said.

The dead victims included Trần Hòa Khánh, born in 1961, from the central province of Thanh Hóa; Nguyễn Thúy Quỳnh, born in 1962, from the capital city of Hà Nội; and Nguyễn Trọng Tiến, born in 1989, from the south central province of Bình Thuận. Besides the three Vietnamese victims, one Egyptian guide was also killed.

Among the 12 injured, 10 are still receiving treatment at the hospital. The embassy has received two others for further care, Công said.

The ambassador added that right after the incident, the embassy directly worked with relevant agencies of the host country, including the Egyptian Ministers of Tourism and Health to ensure the best emergency care for the victims.

The embassy staff also came to the site of the bomb attack on the day and visited the victims at the hospital.
