By El Sawy Ahmed:
Egyptian Agricultural Export Council (AEC) has notified its members, through an official document, that many rejection notices about Egyptian citrus were received from the European Union’s phytosanitary unit as many consignments were destroyed due to fruit defects contravening EU’s standards and requirements.
The document requested exporters to exercise caution in future consignments to be exported to the European Union to avoid denial owing to not complying with phytosanitary requirements.
The Cabinet’s Media Center affirmed last month that Egypt ranked second worldwide in exporting citrus in 2018, indicating that any matters arising in connection with decline in Egyptian citrus exports are mere hearsay aiming at casting doubt on the quality and safety of Egypt’s agricultural produce.
