Ministry of Finance will take charge of supporting Egypt's New Health Insurance System through providing the financial appropriations necessary for shoring up the system during the preparatory phases of implementation, according to minister Mohmed Maeet.
The state budget will pay out the health insurance subscriptions on behalf of  12 million low-income earners and pensioners, informed source at Ministry of Finance told Al-Mal newspaper.
During first meeting held between Minister of Finance and Health, higher ministerial committee was agreed to be created to supervise adherence to specific phased tasks given to agencies participating in the new health insurance system.
Another committee was created by the Ministerial Cabinet to specify most vulnerable subscribers whose subscriptions will be paid out by the state budget, Maeet said.
Also, a technical committee will be charged with setting and updating prices of all health services provided by NHIS.
Amid worries about the extra costs that companies will have to pay as of early July in the framework of NHIS, MP Ashraf El-Araby told Al-Mal newspaper that 2% Takaful fees will be collected from companies, driving up prices of their products and inflation rates, consequently, to new highs.
