The World Bank on Saturday approved a $ 300 million loan to complete the current Rural Sanitation Services Program, as part of supporting the expansion of government efforts to increase and improve sanitation in rural areas of Egypt's poorest governorates.

According to a press release issued by the WB, the "Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Program" was launched in 2015 with a $ 550 million funding to back the national program adopted by the Egyptian government for sanitation in villages so as to provide good sanitation services to some 50 million rural Egyptians.

The program took on top of its priority the provision of  improved sanitation services to near-canal households and important waterways, as well as achieving the decentralization of  sanitation services to improve their quality by increasing their accountability to citizens.
