Egypt condemned the recent deadly terrorist attack that targeted a military parade in southern Iran, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The statement stressed that the condemnation came in line with Egypt's fixed and constant positions that condemn all types and forms of terrorist operations.

"Egypt offers sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured," said the statement.

It also renewed Egypt's call for intensifying international efforts "to combat the phenomenon of terrorism and eliminate its sources of support."

The attack that took place earlier on Sunday in Ahvaz city in southern Iran left over 20 dead.

Ties between Egypt and Iran have been cut off for decades, since Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979.

Over the past few years, Egypt has repeatedly condemned what it described as Iran's interference in the domestic affairs of Arab states and the Islamic republic's alleged support of the ballistic missile attacks launched by Shiite Houthi group in Yemen against Saudi Arabia, Egypt's key regional ally.
