Alexandria Sea Port is poised to invite investors within days to construct a multi-purposed terminal at dock No. 55 at USD450mln investments through the issuance of  two tenders for consultations and constructions.
"Alexandria Port Authority clinched agreement for establishing a new company made up of APA, the Maritime Transports Holding Company and Suez Canal Authority at EGP500mln capital in order to take up operations conducted at the dock and the adjacent ones," said APA chairman Medhat Attia.
International companies will be invited to conduct advisory and construction tasks, he continued, adding that the new company will be charged with handling containers in addition to bulk or general cargoes.
The company will also focus on handling containers  at annual capacity of 1.25mln containers.
The multipurpose terminal, due to be constructed at dock No. 55 and adjacent ones, will be 1800m long and 14m deep and with  290,000 sqm warehouses.
Attia touted the terminal, saying that it will help drive up capacity of Alexandria Sea Port, as Egypt's total trading volume is expected to edge up in 2027 by 257mln tonne and 8mln containers per year up from 2mln containers capacity.
