Oman budget carrier SalamAir has announced plans to launch flights between Muscat and Alexandria, Egypt, starting March 2.

The new route will initially operate three times a week and will move to daily operations in May.

The new service is the airline’s second destination in Africa after Khartoum, Sudan and the first direct flight offering between Muscat International Airport and Borg El Arab International Airport. Flights will depart from Muscat at 20:35 and arrive in Alexandria at 23:45, and return flights will depart Alexandria at 00:30, arriving in Muscat at 06:55. Return tickets to Alexandria are now available at special promotional fares.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir, said: “Egypt is an important market for SalamAir. Alexandria is the second largest city in the country and is an important industrial and economic centre, which is also a vibrant tourist destination. The city is steeped in history and with its modern infrastructure, we are confident that the launch of our direct service will offer another dimension to business and leisure travellers alike. We aim to continue with our strategy to provide affordable, flexible and rewarding travel options across our expanding network.”

Captain Ahmed added: “The launch of Alexandria as our latest destination is part of our five-year strategy to continue growing our network, our fleet and diversified customer offerings. We take pride in being the first to connect Muscat to Alexandria with direct flights and we look forward to expanding our Egypt service to Cairo and hopefully other cities soon. Our aim is to continue providing our guests with exciting travel possibilities on our growing fleet of A320neo aircraft.”

Today, the SalamAir network consists of 14 destinations including Muscat, Salalah, Suhar, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot, Shiraz, Kathmandu, Khartoum, Dhaka, and Alexandria.
