Shell was one amongst a number of companies to have recently been awarded new exploration rights in Egypt. Reuters reports that the Dutch major secured 12 concessions offered in a bidding round, Reuters reportes.

The firm’s country chairman, Gasser Hanter, reportedly said: “The blocks we won today complement the picture for us.

“We are equally focused on onshore and offshore going forward.”

The chairman added that the current output at the Idku facility is in the 200 – 300 million ft3/d range – in other words, not enough to run both of the facility’s trains.
